Brazil: The Stunning Abstracts Of Renata Rosa

by Sol Biderman - Time Magazine

The art of Renata Rosa is inspired by the sea, the palms, the lush vegetation of the islands and the colonial setting of Parati without any of the kitsch that can be seen by amateur painters on Sundays in the Trianon Park in front of the MASP.

Renata Rosa chose Parati for its inspiration, its calm yet sophisticated life, its historical treasures, declared an international heritage by UNESCO, a town that is charming without being quaint. And quaintness is a term that can never be applied to the stunning art of Renata.

Renata Rosa's bold abstract art can be seen at her gallery in a quaint Parati colonial shop in the old part of town. Her flaming reds muted with ochre, brown and yellow hues are matched in boldness by her stunning blues mixed with violet. Her strokes speak of a controlled wildness, passion and discipline at the same time.

Specially fascinating is her abstract vortex of muted browns and malva and her dyptich and tryptch witch catch color in movement. She works with acrylic on canvas and most of her works are 100 x 100cm or 70 x 1,30cm, some 50 x 50cm.

Renata Rosa is an international artist with an international following and her gallery in the Colonial part of Parati is certainly the most fascinating art exhibition center in town. Visitors from the Festival Literaria International de Paraty, FLIP, which will take place this year in early July should find her art gallery an important venue in the search for what is best in the arts in Parati. Next time in Parati make a stop at her gallery. You won't be disappointed.
